Bohemian Rhapsody
Review of Bohemian Rhapsody: #kimgoestothemovies
*Rami Malek is a national treasure. Aside from the obvious fact that he is adorable (come on eyes), I love that every interview he does, he just looks happy to be there. Also, he made a gold grill out of his Freddie fake teeth… how can you not love him?
*As for Rami as actual Freddie, this was easily one of the best musical portrayals I have seen, since maybe Jamie Foxx as Ray Charles. He was beyond spot on. It was unreal. My boy did his research, he did all his homework, took the practice test, and was stunning. I’d also like to commend the producers for picking someone brown, because, well, Farrokh is brown.
*Rami deserves a nomination for this. Period.
*Fact checking: The truth is most movies take creative liberties. Duh girl. That is no surprise. There are some clear factual chronological things out of order, but the key points are addressed.
*As for the critics: As an avid moviegoer, often times critics drag things from end to end, and this was no different. If you thought that the remaining members of Queen were going to have their hands in something and leave you with all the boiling hot tea one could mustard up, you are wrong. They def glaze over some things, but also, why drag a legend if have Google. If you want the nitty-gritty, go find it yourself girl.
(A great point of reference was the "Straight Outta Compton" film, which gives you facts without providing you with every single detail to the point of possible slander. These are people's real lives at the end of the day, and that is still more important than anyone's entertainment).
*The LIVE AID concert scene, when compared to the actual concert, really brings home how impressive Rami really is. Each member of the I believe was chosen correctly, and help frame a stunning performance. And any doubt that you may have about Rami is wrapped up in that closing sequence.
Plot Twist: When you realize that that is Mike Myers, I hope you were/are as shook as I was/am.
*Now quick, do yourself a favor and go listen to some Queen music. You will find quickly that you know much more than you believe. My personal favorites include: “Don’t Stop Me Now” “Under Pressure”, and the criminally underrated Body Language.
*Verdict: Freddie looks like a person I would completely hang out with now. Like no really, she loves a fashionably shady Queen. Not a huge rock girl myself, but good music is good music, and I can distinctly remember almost every single hit Queen song because my daddy didn't raise no half ass music lover. Overall, this movie leaves you with the feels, the reminder of how great and legendary Freddie and Queen really are, a masterclass in great acting and a reminder that at the end of the day, you gotta be yourself girl, always.
