10 Things For the 1st Day of Summer

1. The best apology is always changed behavior. THE BEST APOLOGY IS ALWAYS CHANGED BEHAVIOR.

2. As we step head first into the summer months, I implore my melanin deficient friends to refrain from claiming your slight summer tan matches my God given brown skin. You aren’t almost black now Mary-Kate, and it isn’t funny. And it never has been.

3. Being drunk off your face is never a reason to disrespect someone. EVER. Especially, someone, you don’t know very well. Bringing up race, gender or even a person’s level at your job says more about you than it does about me. Be cautious of the things said during your drunken nights that they don’t get your butt kicked during your days of clarity.

4. Everyone isn’t a hater, you’re just not dope.

5. Forgiveness is a hell of a drug…. But holding on to ish gives you wrinkles. So do it anyways… Be stingy with second chances, be stingy with your time and energy, but always forgive.

6. Gentle reminder that no one’s life is as cool, fun, or impressive as it appears on Instagram. Chill.

7. Another note for the summer months, do us a favor, if your feet literally look like two barking dogs, leave them inside. LITERALLY, leave them in a sock, in a shoe and away from us. Everyone doesn’t deserve to wear sandals.

8. May you all find someone in this life that is Intrigued by your differences, instead of intimated by them.

9. Let’s all work on being better friends in summer 2017(2018). Less of the lets get together, but never make plans, less of the don’t text back friends, less of the sitting across from your friends but not listening to your friends, less of the I’m so busy friends, less of the full of excuses friends, less of we call each other friends but aren’t doing anything to actually be friends, friends. Life is short and precious and the sun is hotter than hell. Spend time with the folks that make the summer heat a little more bearable… <3

10. Stay hydrated. Stay in your lane. Stay prayed up. Protect your eyebrows and your edges. Read a book. Use sunblock, even if you’re black. Dance full out. Stop worrying about someone else’s relationship. Everyone isn’t invited. Mind your business. Laugh more. Dab on them hoes. Don’t be annoying. Live your life like the pink starburst every day… even when you feel like the yellow one.

Happy summer folks. ☀
